Ever since the early days of Christian mission, Korean church has embraced the people with love of Christ by building hospitals, schools, orphanages and nursing homes. Korean Diakonia(KD) is an ecumenical organization that inherits this spirit of sharing.
As an offspring of Korean Council of Christian Social Welfare which was founded to embody a systematic and professional Korean Christian social welfare in 2002, KD came into being to accommodate the 1.3million disaster relief volunteers who worked on the recovery of the destroyed environment and to console the fishermen who lost their living grounds by the oil spill in the western coast of Korean Peninsula in December, 2007.

Following this volunteer service task for the western coast oil spill accident, the organization has continued the disaster relief projects for Myanmar cyclone in 2008, the earthquake in Sichuan, China, the flood in Philippine in 2009, Indonesia earthquake, and 2010 earthquake in Haiti. KD also participated in support and mediation of the Yongsan Tragedy victims, the World War II Japanese military sex slave victims, and rare and obstinate diseases patients, and held the Christian Social Welfare Expo in 2005 and 2010.
KD intends to confirm that the Korean church stands firmly as the hope of the Korean society under the banner of "Uniting by serving & Serving as an united being", by consolidating services carried out by the local churches and individual denominations.
KD makes the utmost efforts to establish 'Communicating Korean Church', 'Mature Korean Church' by means of social welfare, disaster relief, volunteer services, and reconciliation/mediation work.
